A study to evaluate the effectiveness of self- instructional module (SIM) in terms of knowledge and attitude regarding home care management among patients with cancer admitted selected hospital at Meerut

A new study conducted at a selected hospital in Meerut has shed light on the impact of a Self-Instructional Module (SIM) designed to improve the knowledge and attitude of cancer patients regarding home-based care management.

The research focused on patients admitted to the hospital who often struggle with understanding complex care routines after discharge. With the rising number of cancer cases and the growing demand for effective home-care strategies, the study aimed to determine whether a structured self-learning module could empower patients to manage their condition more confidently.

According to the investigators, the Self-Instructional Module covered key areas such as symptom monitoring, medication adherence, dietary guidelines, hygiene practices, pain management, and emotional well-being. Participants were assessed before and after exposure to the module.

Preliminary findings revealed a significant improvement in both knowledge and attitude among patients after they engaged with the SIM. Many participants reported increased confidence in managing their symptoms at home and expressed a better understanding of when to seek medical help.

Healthcare professionals involved in the study noted that such self-learning tools could play a crucial role in reducing hospital readmissions and improving the overall quality of life for cancer patients. They emphasized that patient education is a vital component in long-term treatment success, especially in semi-urban regions like Meerut.

The research team stated that the positive outcomes highlight the need to integrate self-instructional modules into routine cancer care across healthcare facilities. They believe this approach could serve as a model for patient empowerment and improved home-care adherence in other medical domains as well.

The full report is expected to be shared with regional healthcare authorities to explore possibilities for wider implementation.
