M.Sc Nursing
Harsha College of Nursing offers five specialized post-graduate programs, each lasting 2 years, designed to advance clinical expertise and prepare nurses for leadership roles. Specializations include Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Mental Health Nursing, and Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing. These programs combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience, allowing students to develop expertise in their chosen field. Graduates gain essential skills in leadership, critical thinking, and patient care, preparing them for impactful roles in healthcare settings. The curriculum equips them to excel in diverse nursing careers and contribute to the advancement of the profession.
Minimum Eligibility for Admission
- Minimum 1 year of experience after completing the UG program.
- The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Council registration.
- Minimum education requirements shall be the passing of B.Sc.Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
- The selection of the candidates shall be based on the merit in the Entrance Examination held by university or competent Authority.
Program Outline
The Master of Science in Nursing (M.Sc. Nursing) is a postgraduate program, with 5 courses to opt to specialize in. Students are equipped with in-depth knowledge in theory, research, education, and management. We stress on learning that cultivates evidence-based practice, clinical proficiency, and academic excellence.
M.Sc in Medical Surgical Nursing
A professional medical surgical nurse specializes in offering medical care to individuals preparing for or recovering from a surgical procedure. This 2-year course will train you to be efficient in recording symptoms, accessing reactions, monitoring one’s progress, and administering medical treatments and examinations.
As a medical surgical nurse, your responsibilities will include:
- Nurse Educator
- Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Administering medications.
- Checking vitals.
- Running periodic blood tests.
- Updating medical records.
- Operating medical equipment such as feeding tubes, oxygen tanks, catheters, etc.
- Wound care and dressings.
M.Sc in Pediatric Nursing
A paediatric nursing course of 2 years will train you to provide special medical care to children, from the infant stage to teenage years. As a qualified pediatric nurse you may later choose to specialize in a particular field related to child-healthcare, for instance, neurology, oncology, anaesthetics, etc.
As a pediatric nurse, you’ll have to:
- Carrying out physical exams and diagnostics.
- Acting as communicators with medical staff and the family of the child.
- Handing mental wellbeing of children.
- Offering counselling when needed.
M.Sc in Obstetric and Gynecology Nursing
This 2-year course in OB/GYN nursing will train you to offer prenatal, postpartum and reproduction healthcare for female patients. The course offers a thorough understanding of female reproductive health, pregnancies and childbirth. On completion of the course, you can work alongside a physician, or be a part of a family planning center or a community clinic.
As an OB/GYN nurse, you will be trained to:
- Carrying out routine examinations.
- Educating patients on topics such as birth control and safe practices.
- Informing patients about various fertility treatments options.
- Administer vaccines.
- Council and educate pregnant women on prenatal care.
- Monitor the health of newborns.
- Coordinate with other practicing nurses.
M.Sc in Community Health Nursing
The community health nursing course of a duration of 2 years will train you to improve the well-being of communities you serve, by educating them about illnesses, diseases, prevention and safe health practices. Apart from working in healthcare institutions, community clinics and schools, your qualifications allow you to work with several NGOs to serve patients with low incomes.
As a community health nurse, you will be responsible for various duties:
- Educating individuals on disease prevention and how to live a healthy lifestyle.
- Offering in-house treatment for individuals in need. Services offered at home may include pain management, wound care, blood pressure monitoring, medication administration, etc.
- Carrying out health screening for diseases/disorders such as obesity, hypertension, high-cholesterol levels, diabetes, etc.
- Periodically participating in community outreach programs at schools, workplaces and hospitals.
M.Sc in Psychiatric Nursing
The Psychiatric Nursing course is a 2-year course that offers specialized training in assessing, addressing and monitoring the mental health and behavioural condition of an individual. As a registered psychiatric nurse, you will be trained to thoroughly assess the condition and develop a nursing plan of care. You will also learn how to periodically evaluate its effectiveness and introduce modifications,
As a psychiatric nurse, you will be responsible for various activities listed below:
- Assisting with various activities related to self-care.
- Involving clients in recreational activities.
- Conducting regular therapy sessions.
- Helping patients regain coping abilities.
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals.
